Roger Daltrey is considered the founding member of ‘The Who’. His energy drove the band during its formative years. The Who’s ‘My generation’ became a symbol of disenchantment and rebellion for a new generation. The Easybeats were in London in 1967 around the time of their hit single, ‘Friday on my Mind’. This single soared to be number 1 on the charts in Australia and number 13 in England, making the Easybeats the first Australian rock song to achieve international success. Like so many Australian bands from this time, the members were migrants from Europe and met at a migrant hostel. Stevie Wright went on to have a solo career with a single hit in 1974 called ‘Evie’.

Johnny Farnham, later John Farnham, was a teen pop idol in the late 1960s. From 1969, he was ‘King of Pop’ for five successive years. He went on to become one of Australia’s best-known performers. This early portrait of him at age 17 by Colin Beard shows his boyish, youthful look.

Lobby Loyde played guitar with Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs in 1967. Regarded as one of the best rock guitarists of all time in Australia, he always stood out from other band members on stage. In his career, Lobby Loyde also played lead guitar with ‘The Wild Cherries’, ‘The Purple Hearts’ and later in his own band ‘The Coloured Balls’.
